Attendance

  • Students work from home and have the flexibility of creating their own daily schedule.

  • Students attendance is based on pace. Students who are behind pace accrue unexcused absences.

  • Highlands Virtual full time students must follow state compulsory attendance laws.


In order to be a successful full-time student with Highlands Virtual School students should:

  • Have been successfully promoted to the next grade level at the end of the previous school year with a 2.0 GPA or better.

  • For mid-year entrance, students must have demonstrated success in first semester courses (grades of C or better).

Course Offerings

  • All Highlands Virtual School courses are taught by highly qualified state certified teachers.

  • The teachers work on campus at the School Board of Highlands County offices.

  • The courseware is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, however the teachers are not. If you contact an HVS teacher after hours, it may be 24 -48 hours before you receive a response.

Part Time Enrollment

Highlands County students may take courses from Highlands Virtual School to earn credit on completion of the course. Offerings include most courses available to our full time students listed above.

  • Initial Credit - a semester long (0.5 credits) or two semesters (1.0 credit) of a Florida Course

    • Students may wish to get ahead on their graduation path

    • Students may need the flexibility of working independently due to schedule conflict

    • Course may not be offered at their zoned school

  • Credit Recovery - Students who make a D or F in a course in a face-to-face setting may recover the credit by successfully completing a credit recovery course though Highlands Virtual School

    • Student may recover course to boost GPA

    • Student may recover course to earn credit for a failed course
